Our Last Chance to Save Promised 4th Evacuation Exit in Crystal Bay

You can’t make this stuff up.
I know this has been a long slog…15 years…it’s been the little Crystal Bay/Brockway community against the big developers. We won in 2009 in front of the Washoe County Commissioners when we saved our 4th exit. We won in 2021 when we saved it again.

We need to rally one more time. The new developer EKN wants Wassou west of Reservoir Rd (behind the casino) right now. Just cuz. It makes it easier for him to remove 200k cubic yards of dirt off the site, nearly every tree and have thousands of dump trucks travel in and out. Never mind the fact that Crystal Bay and Incline will have one less way to exit our area for up to 5 years or more. It’s an early Christmas gift to the developer; a financial windfall since the free land underneath the Wassou right of way is worth millions.

But now Incline Village, the sleeping giant, has awakened to the negative consequences of this 10 lbs in a 5 lb bag project.

Even more disturbing is Washoe County is trying to throw out one or more of the three appeals to the Mass Grading Special Use Permit on the basis an appellant who lives in Incline Village doesn’t reside within 500 feet of the project and has no “standing” to comment. Incline Village doesn’t count? Last we checked fires don’t stay within a 500 ft area. This is all about access, evacuation and health and safety.

Who is looking out for the community?
Big Developers? EKN Development?
Washoe County? TRPA?
The League?
Nope.

We have to look out for ourselves and hold the developer to providing our 4th evacuation exit.
