JMA/Homewood Resort: Shameless

JMA Venture’s hubris is unbelievable. After garnering public support for the Homewood project by claiming it would remain open to everyone; now JMA has announced they will privatize Homewood Ski Resort. No doubt the West Shore Café, the lakefront and Homewood High and Dry Marina are next.

The justification is that there is too much traffic on SR 89 for a public ski resort to thrive. Wow. This is the same project that said traffic and evacuation weren’t a problem. A better explanation is by following the Yellowstone Club model of a private ski area luxury residential development, JMA can ask so much money per unit the ski area income issue is irrelevant.

Meanwhile, the North Shore community of Brockway is left with the derelict hulk of JMA’s Tahoe Inn. Tagged, moldy and boarded up it’s beyond an eyesore. When we asked David Tirman of JMA for the umpteenth time when was he going to tear it down, he replied it costs too much money to demolish.

Placer County do your job. 15 years of the falling down Tahoe Inn is enough to bear.
